Hi,
Firstly I must confess...the hardest thing was to start this blog. I am by nature a very private, shy person and don't laugh. This statement is true. I am just very good at hiding this aspect of myself.

So I am exposed (don't worry; no nude photos...some stuff belongs in closets). Wow..it is not so bad. Okay.
I have waited approx 7 years to walk El Camino in northern Spain. There was never going to be a perfect time,
but now felt like the right time. My intention is to walk 780 kms starting in St Jean Pied and walk, not cycle, to Santiago. I may go on to Finisterre, but then I'll allow myself the luxury of a bus.

If Air Chance (also known as Air Canada) is still flying then I'll be leaving this Thurs. I arrive in Paris and Day 1 I'll be staying in Bordeaux the 1st night mostly to overcome jet-lag. So I'll keep you posted.

I look forward to a wonderful adventure filled with fascinating and interesting people, lots of history and architecture. Hope my 2 mos of Spanish lessons' kick in '.No, I do not have a translating device. For me this would be just another thing to loose. I am especially good at losing 'such' things. In fact, I spend an inordinate amount of time for looking things. I have more keys than God does to his various kingdoms and I own more bifocals and 'cheaters'. The latter in every room and still I manage to leave home without any of them. So despite the overloaded brain, stuff still 'kicks into gear'. Just hope 'Dutch' isn't the only language to resurface.
I am already there.
Should be heading up the Pyrenees by Saturday if weather cooperates.
Annie

Great that you have this blog!!
I am following - that is the only way people can post comments that appear on the blog, I think!
Buen Camino, and don't worry about the Spanish - there will be lots of pilgrims who can translate.
    Ultrea!!

  2. Hi Everyone,
Hope you are having better weather than the north of Spain. Rain, drizzle and more rain. Today we just did the ´hardest part ´...the Pyrennes...it was tough...high winds, rain, hail, snow...lots of mud and then snow...lower regions...deer, sunshine. Weather sucked in mountains as it often does, but the scenery was magnifico. Absolutely gorgeous.
Did this in 2 steps...St Jean to Orisson (8 kms)...So much to tell...keeping a journal.
    Happy Trails,
    Annie

  3. Hi Amigos,
Today I am just east of Santo Domingo. Should be in Burgos by Friday.
Don´t let anyone tell you this is an easy walk. It ain´t. The terrain etc is not difficult. The hardest part is getting up to do it every day. Think we have finally left the rain behind. Halleluja. Amen. Praise the lord.
However, this part of Spain is magnificent. The mountains, foothills, valleys and mediaevel villages are amazing. Actually the architecture is quite a mix...Romanesques, Basque...most from 1600 hundreds to present century. Some modern touches here and there. Just beautiful.
And the energy the Camino and the people and the scenery generate seems to have a ´life of it´s own´.
I never thought I would get this far...eh voila. Wow. So much farther to go...one step at a time.
Some places are great...some are scary, but all interesting. I´m getting a lot of practice speaking several languages. Great.
See you at the end of May or sometime in June.
Hope everyone is well. The whole experience is reallly beyond words...despite the rain, the cold buildings, the endless days...because the beauty is just astounding in the villages, the cathedrals, the people. I really have no words right now.
Keeping a journal & other notes & living vicarously in my guidebook.
Feeling tired, cold, wet and somewhat in pain everyday doesn´t allow for a lot of detailed description etc...but it´s there.
    Later....
    Have a great weekend.
    Happy Trails wherever you go.
    Adios,
    Annie
